Full Moon Witch Silhouette Necklace

Make a fun Halloween inspired full moon necklace with polymer clay

I don’t know why, but I just love witches. Perhaps it is because when I was a young girl I spent a lot of time daydreaming about flying like a bird. I literally had my head in the clouds. When people say Halloween, the first thing I think of is a bright green faced witch. With Halloween on my mind and staring up at the night sky, I was inspired to create this pendant necklace. With a little polymer clay and craft paint you too can create this beautiful necklace.

  • blank necklace
  • hobby blade
  • jewelry pliers: rounded
  • black white acrylic paint
  • thin paintbrush
  • toothpick

  • optional: sandwich baggie

STEP 1: Roll out 2 blue balls, 3 purple balls and 2 black balls ( 7 equal sized balls of clay)

STEP 2: Combine and blend together 1 blue and 1 purple ball and, 1 purple and 1 black ball (you should now have 5 balls of clay)

STEP 3: Roll each of the 5 clay balls into ovals and butt them together in light to dark order ( blue, blue/purple, purple, purple/black, black)

STEP 4: Flatten and smooth clay. Use your thumb to smooth between colors going with the “grain”

STEP 5: Cut out a circle you can use a cutter or template. I used a yogurt cup to mark a circle onto my clay. (making my pendant about 1 1/2 inches in diameter)

STEP 6: Smooth out any rough edges. I used a sandwich baggie over my clay and gently rubbed my finger on the baggie to smooth away rough spots. *this prevents fingerprinting your work and can smooth out prints you have made. Flatten a ball of yellow clay and gently press onto your pendant.  Insert a headpin.

BAKE: Bake clay as directed. I used Sculpey III which bakes at 275 degrees for 15 minutes per 1/4 inch thickness. I baked mine for 16 minutes. Let it cool.

STEP 7: Use a thin paintbrush to add a few dots of white acrylic paint for stars. Use a toothpick lightly dipped in white paint for smaller stars. You can also drag the toothpick through wet dots of paint to create “twinkling” stars. (rinse white paint out of paintbrush and dry it)

STEP 8: Use your thin paintbrush and black acrylic paint to paint on some spooky dead trees and a silhouette of a witch in front of the moon. Use rounded plyers to curl your headpin. Add a jump ring and put your pendant on a necklace.
