DIY Tie Organizer for Father's Day

Father’s day is just around the corner. This year instead of going with the universally accepted and oh so very common Father’s Day gift, a tie, I decided I would make my dad something to organize all those ties he has received in the past.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 20 – 3 inch Brass Rings
  • 3/8 inch Jump Rings
  • Wooden Hanger
  • Black Ribbon
  • Black Paint
  • Needle Nose Pliers
  • Hot Glue Gun and lots of Hot Glue Sticks
  • Scissors

Directions:

Start by painting your hanger. I used black paint to try to make my Tie Organizer more masculine, but feel free to use what ever color you prefer, or even paint a fun design.

While the paint is drying, it is time to put the rings together. Use the pliers to split a jump ring enough to put 2 brass rings through it, and then rejoin the ends. Repeat this 2 more times joining the brass rings end to end until you have a chain of 4 rings. Make 4 more chains of 4 rings.

Use the same method above to connect the rows together. I did find that laying the rows that I was connecting flat on top of each other help to keep the rings from going all cattywampus.

Attach an extra jump ring to each of the top 4 rings.

Cut 4 – 10 inch pieces of ribbon and string 1 through each of the 4 jump rings.

Then heat up the glue gun. While that is warming up, I laid everything out flat and positioned my hanger on the ribbon with the back or “wrong” side up. (There isn’t really a wrong size, unless you decide to paint a design, or say have one side that you tried to get a sticker off and now just doesn’t look quite as nice.) Then glue ribbon to the back side or the hanger, cutting off any extra ribbon when you are done.

Now organize those ties!!

PS. This would also work great for scarves!
